Eminent aerospace engineer N Jayan has been appointed as the director of the liquid propulsion system centre(LPSC )one of the premier senders of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).The appointment registers his distinguished career spanning several decades in India’s Space Program, during which he has played a role in advancing the Nations propulsion Technology.
prior to assuming the new role Sri Jayan served in several key leadership positions including associate director of lpsc, project director of the cariogenic stage project and project director of the next generation launch vehicle (NGLV)project at the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre(VSSC )
A leading figure in the indigenous development of India’s cryogenic propulsion systems JAYAN Spearheaded the team that developed the CE 20 cryogenic engine which powers the GSLV MK111 LVM3 launch vehicle.The successful development of the engine marked a major technological milestone significantly enhancing India’s capability to under take complex space missions with home grown Technology
Jayan holds a bachelor of Technology in mechanical engineering from the college of Engineering (CET) Thiruvananthapuram and a master of engineering in aerospace engineering from the Indian Institute of Science (IISc)Bengaluru where he graduated with a gold medal.
His exceptional contributions to space science and technology have earned him several prestigious Honours including the astronautical society of India space gold medal and three ISRO team awards in 2025,he was conferred the Rashtriya Vigyan Puraskar the countries highest honour in the field of science by the President of India in recognition of his outstanding contributions to space research
A native of mannamoolla,Thiruvananthapuram Sri James appointment as director of lpsc is widely regarded as a significant recognition of his technical expertise,vissionary leadership and enduring contributions to India’s space in interiors
His wife is working as a senior administrative officer at press Information Bureau media and Communications Government of India Thiruvananthapuram
